Miss Universe Title Holders of the 80s: My Top 5 Favourites
I didn't watch my first Miss Universe Pageant until 1992, so I, while of course knowing them becasuse I have devoured all facts and trivia and lists since I can remember, were not that familiar with all of them. And it's also peculiar what a difference time makes because 10 years ago my rankings apart from my #1 might have been different but let me just say this. The 80s produced 10 remarkable Miss Universe title holders. Let's take a look back at who they were:
Miss Universe 1980: Shawn Weatherly from the USA
Miss Universe 1981: Irene Saez from Venezuela Miss Universe 1982: Karen Baldwin from CanadaMiss Universe 1983: Lorraine Downes from New ZealandMiss Universe 1984: Yvonne Ryding from Sweden
Miss Universe 1985: Deborah Carthy-Deu from Puerto Rico
Miss Universe 1987: Cecilia Boloco from Chile
Miss Universe 1988: Pornthip Nakhirunkunok from Thailand
Miss Universe 1988: Pornthip Nakhirunkunok from Thailand
5: Pornthip Nakhirunkunok from Thailand
What I really love about her is that she seemed geniunely sweet, smart and just really likeable. When I rewatched clips, I love how she touched everyone's faces during the crowning - it is not as strange as it sounds. She seems like she was really warm and I love how she looked during her farewell walk even more than when she won.

4: Deborah Carthy-Deu from Puerto Rico
I appreciate her beauty now even more than years ago. I think she is a class beauty and there's just something about her that is so attractive that you are just drawn to her. It's crazy how natural these woman look compared to what we see today.
3: Cecilia Bolocco from Chile
I thought I might be a bit biased since she was co-host during the 2nd Miss Universe I saw but then and now, gorgeous. During her final walk, when she says look into my eyes, oh yeah, mesmerizing. Just because of that, I think I almost even want to put her in #2.
2. Shawn Weatherly from the USA
Stunning, stunning, stunning. I vaguely remember her from Baywatch but I also just think she would win in any competition in any year, especially in the 90s. Timeless beauty.
1. Angela Visser from Holland
This Dutch beauty I was most familiar with because we saw her as color commentator in 92 and 93. I just absolutely love her. She seems like she could not only make heads turn in any room but that you also would end up wishing she could your best friend - the kind of sincerity that I totally adore. She might jsut be my favourite of all time along with Pia Wurtzbach.
This was hard. The 80s rocked!
