"We all know how it goes: If for any reason, our new Miss xxx cannot fulfil her duties, the first runner-up shall take over" In anticipation to see who wins, most of us don't really pay much attention to it. But when this special "clause" comes into action, it usually garners a lot of attention. So I am going to look at some 1st runners-up who assumed the title when the winner won another title, resigned or got dethroned. We are shifting to Miss America now and the year was 1984 when the first black Miss America, Vanessa Williams, was forced to resign, the job was left vacant and of course the first runner-up had to step in. So let's take a look back at:  Suzette Charles, Miss America 1984: A reign of 7 weeks Suzette Charles was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and at the age of 20 she was crowned Miss New Jersey.   Kanteera Techaphattanakul (25) was crowned Miss World Thailand 2026 last night by the reigning Miss World and outgoing Miss World Thailand, Opal Suchata. The medical technologist from Chiang Mai has won several leadership and academic awards in Thailand and is an advocate for stateless children.  She will represent Thailand at the 73rd edition of Miss World this August in Vietnam and is hoping to give her country a back to back victory on September 5. 

 Tonight, the reigning Miss World, Opal Suchata will crown her national successor, Miss World Thailand 2026, in the presence of Miss World CEO, Julia Morley CBE. 23 women are competing for the title and the chance to try and secure a back to back victory for the Kingdom of Smiles in Vietnam this August and September. Who will be the new Miss World Thailand 2026?  It's time for Miss USA 2026 and with a new organization at the helm, it's safe to say the new Miss USA will have a fantastic reign. The current queen, Audrey Eckert from Nebraska has been consistently working and traveling. So if that is only in the transition year, imagine what a fabulous reign the new queen will have.
