From Poland to... Eye on You: Marvelous Sanyaolu - USA

 In this series, I will highlight some candidates who competed at the pageant organization I used to work for. Now this one is tricky because I was lucky enough to interact with most of the candidates (not in person because of my personal choice) but I met some around the world and interacted with many of them online too. I am biased and I found all the girls I encountered so special and will always support them in their future endeavours. Because I am doing it for other pageants, I shall do it for this one too. The 'From Poland to..." Eye on You series concludes with a lady who placed in the top 12: 



Marvelous Sanyaolu - USA 

One of the most pleasant, or shall I say most beautiful, surprises of last year's pageant in Poland was the spectacular Marvelous Sanyaolu, who represented the United States. Crowned only a couple of weeks before the scheduled departure time, Marvelous proved that her military training gave the grit and determination to take on any challenge and hit it out of the park. 


To be very honest, I do not know that much about her but what I do know is that sometimes the stars align for you. I do not know how much pageant experience she has had in the past but at this pageant, it looked like she has been doing this for her whole life. She did her name justice and her entire participation was simply 'Marvelous'. Congratulations to her and her team for preparing her in such a short time. 


Imagine what she could do with more time. That excites me greatly and if she were to compete again, I would love for her to try: 

1. Miss USA: Now that Miss USA is under new, more passionate, more organised and KINDER leadership I would love for Marvelous to try out this system. The United States needs strong, powerful female role models now more than ever and I think this incredible young human fits that mold. In fact, that is the wrong description. She would probably create a new mold, which is what you are trying to do because that is what representation is all about. 

2. Miss America: It's amazing what good leadership and passion can do and that has also benefitted and reinvigorated the Miss America system. Depending on which system Marvelous, is drawn to, I could also see her doing extremely well in this system. 

I am not sure if we will see her on stage again but I would be delighted to see her again in the next year or two.

Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - PROLOGUE

THE WARMEST: Zozi blew me away because she was the warmest and  most naturally charasmatic reigning Miss Universe I met The Beauty of How a Moment Can Last a Lifetime  I remember the first time I "saw" a pageant. The year was 1987. The channel was TV1 if memory serves me and I only got a brief glimpse of something that caught my attention immediately and left such a huge impression that it still remains with me to this day. It was the first ever (I found out later) live broadcast of Miss South Africa and I could only take in something that spoke to me for probably less than a couple of minutes before the sitter changed the channel. Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - A Celebration of Strength

 PREVIOUSLY:  Prologue IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: It is a pity that hindsight is sometimes the  best teacher but pageants represented what I saw in my mother when I was   young and the good things I wanted for her!  Hindsight is such a wonderful thing - beautiful, sweet, inspirational but also usually a bit painful without the extreme sting of the deep, overwhelming hurt that you might have felt at the time. I find people who say that you should just look ahead a bit misguided because, you see, without hindsight there can be no reflection.
