CARIBBEAN'S COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 2025: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

It was a less than stellar year for the Caribbean and I often get frustrated because so many beauties from this region get ignored. Miss World was definitely the one system that showed these beauties some love. With that being said, by default the Caribbean's Country of the Year is: 

3 PLACEMENTS MAKE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC COUNTRY OF THE YEAR OF THE CARIBBEAN 



1. DOMINICAN REPUBLIC 

The Dominican Republic was the country that performed best this year as they placed in 3 out of the Big 4. Their candidate at Miss World, Mayra Delgado,  managed to secure a top 40 placement and at Miss Universe they also got a top 30 placement in the form of Jennifer Ventura. It was at Miss International, though, that they did the best with Anita Maspons placing in the top 10. 


2. MARTINIQUE

Martinique had a reason to celebrate in 2025. Aurelie Joachim did the unthinkable. She won Miss World's Top Model Competition first. Then she went on to edge out Brazil in the top 8 (America's) and eventually finished in 4th place (or 3rd runner-up) at Miss World 2025. Afterwards, she was named Miss World Caribbean. There was something really refreshing and exciting about that. 



3. PUERTO RICO 

Puerto Rico got two important placements at the Big 4 in 2025. Their delegate at Miss World 2025, Valeria Perez, finished in the top 20 and it was at Miss Universe 2025 that the lovely Zashely Alicea finished in the top 12. Martinique's incredible sole performance at Miss World narrowly bumped the Shining Star of the Caribbean into 3rd place for this reason.

Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - PROLOGUE

THE WARMEST: Zozi blew me away because she was the warmest and  most naturally charasmatic reigning Miss Universe I met The Beauty of How a Moment Can Last a Lifetime  I remember the first time I "saw" a pageant. The year was 1987. The channel was TV1 if memory serves me and I only got a brief glimpse of something that caught my attention immediately and left such a huge impression that it still remains with me to this day. It was the first ever (I found out later) live broadcast of Miss South Africa and I could only take in something that spoke to me for probably less than a couple of minutes before the sitter changed the channel. But it STUCK and ended become perhaps the greatest love of my life.  A MOMENT IN TIME: The year was 1987,  I don't remember much  but I  remember a few glimpses of the middle of the show and  I can still see it so clearly. Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - A Celebration of Strength

 PREVIOUSLY:  Prologue IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: It is a pity that hindsight is sometimes the  best teacher but pageants represented what I saw in my mother when I was   young and the good things I wanted for her!  Hindsight is such a wonderful thing - beautiful, sweet, inspirational but also usually a bit painful without the extreme sting of the deep, overwhelming hurt that you might have felt at the time. I find people who say that you should just look ahead a bit misguided because, you see, without hindsight there can be no reflection.
