ASIA'S COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 2025: THAILAND

It was a really good year for two pageant loving countries in Southeast Asia: Thailand and the Philippines but in the end 

THAILAND REIGNS SUPREME AS ASIA'S COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 


1. THAILAND 

In May 2025, Thailand finally won their first Miss World crown when the gorgeous Opal Suchata won the blue crown in India. It's almost unimaginable to think that this Southeast Asia powerhouse had to to wait to so long but it was worth the wait and their queen is sensational. 



At Miss Universe, fan favorite, Praveenar Singh, also did her country proud by becoming the 1st runner-up to Miss Universe 2025. This is the second time in 3 editions that Thailand got so close to getting their 3rd Miss Universe title. 

Elsewhere, Waree Ngamkham also gave her country reason to celebrate with her Miss Earth Fire title and Jarupiya Boribalburibhand secured a top 20 placement at Miss International. 

2. PHILIPPINES 



Though not winning a Big 4 in 2025, Ahtisa Manola gave her country lots to smile about with her 3rd runner-up finish at their favourite pageant, Miss Universe. Myrna Esguerra also made Binibini Pilipinas fans very happy when she placed as the fourth runner-up to Miss International. 

And the year started on a strong note for the Philippines when Krishnah Gravidez made it all the way to the top 8 of Miss World and was named Miss World Asia. On home soil, at Miss Earth 2025, Joy Barcoma also secured a top 8 spot. 

3. INDIA 



India also placed in each of the Big 4 Pageants in 2025. Nandini Gupta made the top 20 of Miss World, Komal Choudhary advanced to the top 25 of Miss Earth, Manika Vishwakarma placed in the top 40 and, for the 1st time in 13 years, India had a reason to celebrate their Miss International participation when Roosh Sindhu was included in the top 20 of the 2025 edition.

Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - PROLOGUE

THE WARMEST: Zozi blew me away because she was the warmest and  most naturally charasmatic reigning Miss Universe I met The Beauty of How a Moment Can Last a Lifetime  I remember the first time I "saw" a pageant. The year was 1987. The channel was TV1 if memory serves me and I only got a brief glimpse of something that caught my attention immediately and left such a huge impression that it still remains with me to this day. It was the first ever (I found out later) live broadcast of Miss South Africa and I could only take in something that spoke to me for probably less than a couple of minutes before the sitter changed the channel. But it STUCK and ended become perhaps the greatest love of my life.  A MOMENT IN TIME: The year was 1987,  I don't remember much  but I  remember a few glimpses of the middle of the show and  I can still see it so clearly. Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - A Celebration of Strength

 PREVIOUSLY:  Prologue IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: It is a pity that hindsight is sometimes the  best teacher but pageants represented what I saw in my mother when I was   young and the good things I wanted for her!  Hindsight is such a wonderful thing - beautiful, sweet, inspirational but also usually a bit painful without the extreme sting of the deep, overwhelming hurt that you might have felt at the time. I find people who say that you should just look ahead a bit misguided because, you see, without hindsight there can be no reflection. And reflection is something that guides you towards a deeper understanding of yourself, others, your environment, what's trivial and what's not and just life in general, I would argue.  Now, as I am writing, I am also discovering that yes I usually proclaim that this year it will be 35 years of pageants being integral to my existence.
