AFRICA'S COUNTRY OF THE YEAR 2025: ZIMBABWE
Africa produced some exceptional beauties this year and somehow, apart from Miss World, the continent came out slightly under-appreciated. Occasionally a bridesmaid, but usually not the bride, license holders should think carefully which pageants they align themselves with. Let's get one with seeing how the continent fared:
ZIMBABWE'S STELLAR YEAR
1. Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe had a great year and I am all for it. Their highest placement of course happened at Miss International where they achieved the 1st runner-up position thanks to the lovely Yollanda Chimbarani.
Their delegates at Miss World and Miss Universe, Courtney Jongwe and Lyshanda Moyas also placed in their respective pageants.
2. Ethiopia
What a refreshing change to see Ethiopia, that is not often noticed, go all the way to becoming the 1st runner-up at Miss World. Well done to Hasset Dereje Admassu for this historic feat. Hopefully this is a much needed boost for pageantry in this country. Elsewhere, they also achieved a top 12 placement thanks to Delina Girma at Miss Earth
3. Namibia
Namibia also had a successful year. The incredible Selma Kamanya was one of the major favourites to take home the Miss World crown and eventually landed a top 8 spot. Ndeshipewa Angula also made her country proud by being part of the Miss Earth top 25.
Thanks to Faith Bwalya, Zambia achieved their very first placement in a Grand Slam (created by Global Beauties). Of course, the incomparable Olivia Yace gave Cote d'Ivoire a 4th runner-up position at Miss Universe.
I hope to see the beauties from my birth continent shine in 2026!
