Women Who Made Me Proud in 2025: Rachel Murgel - Miss International Canada 2025

 Oh I just love it when the women I met along the way keep persevering and keep shining. Another exceptional young human that I want to celebrate is Rachel Murgel, Miss International Canada 2025 and a top 10 finalist at Miss International 2025. 


I always jokingly called Rachel 'Young Olivia' because I saw such resemblance to Olivia Culpo - and of course Rachel is even better. But she is a stunning beauty in her own right. When you ask me what I remember about Rachel, I would say 1) That she is extremely well-spoken 2) That she LOVES reading 3) That she is extremely kind and polite 4) That she is a hard worker 5) That is an absolute class act. 


I was honestly quite annoyed and upset, actually, that Rachel did not place at the one I was, so when I found out that she was competing for the Miss Intenrational Canada, I knew immediately that she was going to win it. And so she did. 

Fast forward to the final night of Miss International 2025 and I was so happy when she was called into the top 20 and elated when she made it to the top 10. I am so very proud of this wonderful young woman and even though I know she has hung up her pageant heels, I am so happy she gave it one more shot and got to experience what she truly deserved. 

So, Rachel, if you ever get to read this. Proud is an understatement! Congratulations on the beautiful way you showed up in Poland and Japan and your fantastic achievements. Loved meeting you and spending time with you and I wish you only the very best life has to offer. And also congratulations on your engagement. May you make each other happy and may your love just grow stronger and stronger!

Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - PROLOGUE

THE WARMEST: Zozi blew me away because she was the warmest and  most naturally charasmatic reigning Miss Universe I met The Beauty of How a Moment Can Last a Lifetime  I remember the first time I "saw" a pageant. The year was 1987. The channel was TV1 if memory serves me and I only got a brief glimpse of something that caught my attention immediately and left such a huge impression that it still remains with me to this day. It was the first ever (I found out later) live broadcast of Miss South Africa and I could only take in something that spoke to me for probably less than a couple of minutes before the sitter changed the channel. But it STUCK and ended become perhaps the greatest love of my life.  A MOMENT IN TIME: The year was 1987,  I don't remember much  but I  remember a few glimpses of the middle of the show and  I can still see it so clearly. Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - A Celebration of Strength

 PREVIOUSLY:  Prologue IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: It is a pity that hindsight is sometimes the  best teacher but pageants represented what I saw in my mother when I was   young and the good things I wanted for her!  Hindsight is such a wonderful thing - beautiful, sweet, inspirational but also usually a bit painful without the extreme sting of the deep, overwhelming hurt that you might have felt at the time. I find people who say that you should just look ahead a bit misguided because, you see, without hindsight there can be no reflection.
