Beauty Queens of 2025: Special Mentions

 As the year draw to a close, I would like to celebrate some of the women who brought great pride to their countries this year by winning their respective titles. I will mainly focus on the Big 4 but here are some special mentions: 

 Emma Tiglao, PHILIPPINES, Miss Grand International 2025 


After years of hard work, the absolutely stunning Emma Tiglao from the Philippines made her country extremely proud when she achieved a back-to-back (by default but still) victory by being crowed Miss Grand International 2025. Emma has put in the work and she showed that she is ready to work and ready to put in all her energy into being the face of Miss Grand International 2025. I was very pleased with her victory and I thought it was very well deserved. May she have an unforgettable reign! 

Yolina Lindquist, USA, Miss Cosmo 2025 

Refreshing, exciting, relevant! Miss Cosmo is the pageant that is currently restoring my faith in pageantry. I love the fact that they are choosing out-of-the-box winners - women with substance, women who are interesting, women who can walk the talk. Yolina's reign has been super busy so far and I can't wait to follow her year of service. I think she will accomplish amazing things. 

Eduarda Braum, Brazil 

The ultra gorgeous Eduarda Braum is apparently just as kind, lovely and humble as she appears. I wish her a beautiful reign and that many great things come her way.

This should come as absolutely no surprise but the woman who made me the proudest in 2025 is Harashta Haifa Zahra. I consider myself lucky that I had the privilege and honour of working with her for 12 months and there is so much to learn from this remarkable young woman.  You see, many people think that it's only the bright lights, the shows, the glamour, the excitement that we live for but trust me, there's only so much that you can take of that before it becomes repetitive. What really mattered that most to me was the people I met and the potential I saw in them. Every title holder came in with an open mind and an open heart. Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - PROLOGUE

THE WARMEST: Zozi blew me away because she was the warmest and  most naturally charasmatic reigning Miss Universe I met The Beauty of How a Moment Can Last a Lifetime  I remember the first time I "saw" a pageant. The year was 1987. The channel was TV1 if memory serves me and I only got a brief glimpse of something that caught my attention immediately and left such a huge impression that it still remains with me to this day. It was the first ever (I found out later) live broadcast of Miss South Africa and I could only take in something that spoke to me for probably less than a couple of minutes before the sitter changed the channel. But it STUCK and ended become perhaps the greatest love of my life.  A MOMENT IN TIME: The year was 1987,  I don't remember much  but I  remember a few glimpses of the middle of the show and  I can still see it so clearly. Why Pageants Became the Love of My Life - A Celebration of Strength

 PREVIOUSLY:  Prologue IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME: It is a pity that hindsight is sometimes the  best teacher but pageants represented what I saw in my mother when I was   young and the good things I wanted for her!  Hindsight is such a wonderful thing - beautiful, sweet, inspirational but also usually a bit painful without the extreme sting of the deep, overwhelming hurt that you might have felt at the time. I find people who say that you should just look ahead a bit misguided because, you see, without hindsight there can be no reflection. And reflection is something that guides you towards a deeper understanding of yourself, others, your environment, what's trivial and what's not and just life in general, I would argue.  Now, as I am writing, I am also discovering that yes I usually proclaim that this year it will be 35 years of pageants being integral to my existence.
